Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the team access places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
